Crafty Chess is freeware graphical user interface for chess engines, coupled with Crafty - descendant of Cray Blitz - World computer chess champion 1983, 1986.Crafty Chess allows you to play against Crafty, configure its skill level from beginner to grandmaster, or use other UCI or Winboard chess protocol compatible engine instead.
Crafty Chess is a freeware
and open-source Graphical User Interface for chess engines - Crafty, a GM level computer
chess engine by Dr. Robert M. Hyatt, being its main in-built engine.
Crafty Chess requires
Microsoft Windows® operating system, but can also function on a Windows
emulator or Windows compatibility layer software, such as Wine.
The system requirements are
at least Windows 2000 OS,
Windows XP being recommended (it works on all desktop Windows versions
up to “Windows 8"). The minimal hardware requirements are around 700Mhz
x86 AMD/Intel CPU with 128 Megabytes of RAM. (the program can be adjusted for lower
performance PCs)
The main characteristics of
the program can be described as a very good PGN and FEN code support. Full move
variation and annotation support. Bug free legal move generation engine, and
moderately good in-built mate search engine. The Crafty chess engine (or any other winboard/UCI engine) can be
used either as an opponent or position analyst. You can also put the program in
Machine-Machine mode and watch computer play against itself.
This
program is freeware – meaning, that you need not pay any fee for it, and as
long as you don’t modify the original package –
you
can redistribute it anywhere you want.
