Siberian Chess, a shareware chess program by Eugene Nalimov running under DOS. Siberian Chess was developed in the 80's and early 90s, and was mainly written in C with time-critical parts in 8080 and later 8086 assembly . It was distributed by Gambit-Soft around 1994.

Description

A chess game based on T2, featuring sounds and characters from the movie as pieces. Captures are animated a la Battle Chess, but the battles take place off the board, in futuristic wastelands and similar stages

The game offers several difficulties and play styles to choose from, along with time control, ratings on the USCF scale over different time-frames and other niceties. Oddly enough, there's no 2D board.

Cannons thunder, chariots race over grassy fields, and dragons hurl fireballs at opposing forces in the latest animated strategy game from Interplay Productions. Watch as dragons toast hapless knights, counsellors flatten pawns with enormous mallets hidden in their robes, and cannons merrily blast away at opponents cowering behind other pieces.

It is entertainment that will prove the words of the famous Oriental Philosopher/Chef Kung Pao, who said, War is fun!
